But in the meantime, Doujinka Festival [link] is tomorrow at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre! This year it's been bundled together with a bunch of other events including Halloween Dance, anime showings, cosplay contests, anime/manga/arts and crafts shopping, and more

I can't believe it's almost Friday and loooong weekend whoo! Next Tuesday I'm heading off to Austria for a couple of weeks, and I'm really excited because it's my first big trip ... and the first time ever to visit Europe~

This Thursday August 13 I'm going to try to have my first schedule Livestream broadcast on tellyMaiji [link] at 7pm EST (GMT-5). It may start a bit earlier depending on what time I actually get home from work :{ but the idea is that having this scheduled time(s) each week will hopefully help me move forward on some multi-part art projects. So it might be a bit unexciting (especially in the beginning when you can't see much) as I'll probably be doing lots of sketching and finetuning as I go along, and there is a nice chat feature (and hopefully I don't lag too much lol)

So, the project. This first one is kinda long, nowhere near the scale of the Valkyrie Profile Tarot I did years ago (when I had way more time) but somewhat similar. The idea is a Second Story Oracle which is a Star Ocean 2 fanart project based on the idea of a Tarot-inspired deck. There will be 15 images: original 12 playable characters plus 2 NPCs I most wanted to join my party from the original game, as well as a card back. The cards will be numbered according to the order in which you encounter the characters (with the exception of the 2 NPCs who will just be at the end).

Also, as I've mentioned before on LJ, it always bothered me that for coming from over three different planets at various levels of development, the character designs looked too consistent. I'm hoping to somewhat redesign the characters as well so that each group has a more distinctive look as follows:

Expellians - medieval with a bit of an Asian twist when possible
Federation members (Earth, Tetragrene) - clearly SF (ultramodern) appearance
Nedians - almost Atlantean? I haven't quite figured this out yet, but only three cards will really need to take this into consideration.

To keep the designs cohesive I may try to draw all the people from the same group one after the other (e.g. all Expellians first) but that's pretty hard to say.

That about sums up the concept - and that's the hope anyways. XD The first card will be 02 THE MAIDEN <s>gee guess who that is</s>. I've pretty much figured out the general composition and outfit redesign (not too different) but I have no idea how long this will take XDD I just have to figure out if I want some sort of consistent background style/border theme by the time Thursday rolls around ack.
